Supporting restoration, growth and healing through Counselling and Coaching for anyone in Christian Ministry

We offer client led, non-directive, safe, person-centred counselling and coaching. Primarily, we work with those in Christian ministry (in whatever capacity – full time or part time, paid or voluntary, in the UK and worldwide). Because we’re completely independent, we have absolutely no agenda coming into your session, we just want to provide you with whatever support you need.
Our Story
For almost twenty years we’ve be driven by a passion to help others. Initially this led us into careers in teaching and mental-health nursing, and then, after we’d both spent time on staff and volunteering in church, into cross-cultural mission in Thailand. For various reasons, our last couple of years in Thailand were tough, and took a huge toll on our mental, emotional and spiritual health. As we opened up about what we’d experienced, and as we talked to others who’d been through similar situations, we realised we were far from alone. As one friend put it, we’d joined “a secret club of burnt ministry workers.”

We’ve seen and experienced firsthand the joys and privileges of working in both ministry and mission, as well as the pressure, stress and sense of loneliness that can sometimes come with it. When we returned to the UK in 2024, we felt a call to work with those in mission and ministry who perhaps don’t have the support network such roles require or who might need specialist help. Nerys began to apply her counselling training towards working with those in mission and ministry and Tom trained as a coach. Supported by UFM Worldwide and commissioned by The Bridge Church in Cardiff, we (as Rooted Restored) now walk alongside cross-cultural missionaries, Pastors and Christian workers living and working all over the world.
Sustaining those on the frontline
At Rooted Restored, our mission is to help sustain those on the frontline of the gospel. We believe that those working in Christian ministry, whether serving locally in the UK or internationally, deserve a dedicated space to find strength and restoration.

Ministry life brings unique challenges. We provide professional coaching and counselling designed to help you navigate the complexities of your calling. Our goal is to help you build the emotional and spiritual resilience needed to remain healthy, effective, and sustained in your work.
How we can support you
Our Professional Backgrounds
Our Approach
We offer a confidential space to address the pressures that often come with ministry, including:

Personal Wellbeing
Addressing burnout, anxiety, and work-related stress

Navigating Change
Support through ministry transitions and shifting family dynamics

Trauma and Recovery
Support for dealing with trauma and spiritual difficulties

Team Health
Strengthening interpersonal dynamics and leadership resilience
We are here to ensure you don’t just survive in ministry, but thrive.
We recognize that frontline work isn't just a job, it’s a calling that impacts every area of your life. We offer two distinct pathways to support your wellbeing:
Resilience-Focused Coaching
Tom's coaching is a collaborative, goal-oriented partnership designed to help you navigate the "now" and the "next." It is particularly effective for those facing ministry transitions or leadership challenges.
-
What it looks like: We focus on practical strategies, identifying obstacles, and developing the skills you need to lead with clarity. Whether it’s managing team dynamics, avoiding burnout or navigating spiritual hurdles, coaching provides the accountability and support to help you move forward with renewed purpose.
Integrative Counselling
Because no two people and no two struggles are the same, Nerys practices Integrative Counselling. This means she draws from different psychological theories or spiritual wisdom to tailor her support to your specific story.
-
What it looks like: We look beneath the surface to address the root causes of anxiety, trauma, or spiritual difficulties. By combining various therapeutic techniques, we create a safe space for you to process deep-seated issues, find emotional healing, and develop lasting inner resilience.

Why Both Matter
By offering both coaching and counselling, we ensure that you receive the specific type of care you need at any given stage of your journey, whether you need a thinking partner to work on your present and future goals or someone to walk alongside you in your healing.
How we work together

It is not uncommon for individuals to move between these two services. You might start with counselling to process a traumatic ministry experience and later transition to coaching as you prepare to step into a new role. During your initial consultation, we can help you determine the most helpful starting point for your specific situation.
Our Sessions

We are based in South Wales, UK and can offer face to face sessions locally but we primarily work online with clients worldwide. Our sessions usually last between 50-60 minutes and will be tailored to your needs and goals. We work with adults (18+) and both Tom and Nerys work with male and female clients.
We understand the unique financial pressures of raising support for ministry. At Rooted Restored, we believe cost should never be a barrier to healing. To make this possible, we operate on a sliding scale based on what you can realistically afford.
Whilst our standard rate is £50 per hour, we offer sessions at a reduced rate or even free of charge for those in need. This is made possible by the generosity of churches, mission agencies, and individual supporters who 'pay it forward' so that everyone can access the support they need. If you are in a position to contribute more, your donation directly subsidises care for a fellow worker in the field.
